Ok, i'm up for this, unless i'm bored by the fifth one ... i mean 20???
Anyway,
1)
Mach die Augen Zu - Die Aerzte
Semi-mellow German rock / love song. Toll! "Close your eyes and kiss me" for you non-German
speakers out there. ... Do we have to write a lot?
2) Walk Idiot Walk - The Hives
Hmmm, Rolling Stones-esque, smartly
dressed younglings play a rather catchy rock song, while girating about the stage like Mick Jagger with an unfortunately placed
itch
3) Megalomania - MUSE
Depressing yet powerful, gothic yet sci-fi-ish song along the lines of "Paradise comes
at a price that i am not prepared to pay". Best part by far being the thunderous, pipe organ-fuelled chorus.
4) In
The Background - The Others
Repetative and unimaginative bass line with eaqually bland drum loops and "melody" with an
over stressed, 80's punk singing style. Why oh why is this song still on here :S
5) Aerials - System of a Down
Mmmmmh,
cello ^^ One of the greatest sounding instruments ever ... after the piano of course. Higher-beings seem to be implied in
this fantastic effort. Hmmm, think i'll don a large cross and black make-up ....
6) Longview - Green Day
Hmmmm,
my girlfriends ringtone. Seems to go diddleediddleediddleedeeee to me, but she says not
. If you like Greenday, you'll like this i guess .... great drummer.
7) Goodnight Goodnight - Hot Hot Heat
Telling
someone to leave never felt so good ^^ I owe this to my girlfriend too ... I gues you all know them, what with them being
Canadian too, but no-one here seems to .. though their new album has just come out, so maybe new interest ... If you don't
know them ... think Razorlight and you'll be pretty much there.
8) (this is kinda fun) Hysteria - MUSE
This is the
story of a man in love so badly that it literally seems to be tearing him apart from the inside out. Excellent delivery of
an emotion otherwise very difficult to describe ... trust me. That distorted bassline is not only incredibly famous after
being on so many adverts now, but is also rather hard to play .... involves much moving of the fingers. I don't play bass
at all, but i'm always impressed to see someone play that ^^
9) Recess - MUSE
A B-side to New Born, it's mainly
quiet until near the end when we're treated to Matt's almost trademark tremelo picking. I absolutely love this song purely
for the guitar riff that features now and again. Not quite long enough to be a solo, and not frequent enough to be part of
the refrain, it is just simply fantastic yet simple.
10) Shiver - Maroon 5
One of their darker songs from the '..
Jane' album. Still light enough not to stir any anger or pain in you, but fun nonethe less, and some nice guitar play - especially
the almost Santana-like solo.
11) Toxicity - Sytem of a Down
Pretty much like the other songs on the album i guess
... but i love the bit at the end when he's saying "When i became the Sun i shone life into the mans hearts". Actually, i
love his voice when he's singing ... moreso in the verses. It's rich.
12) The Bitter End - Placebo
Another voice
I love, just because i can sing along with him, and that's rare. It's one of those 'wall of sound' songs, where there is always
noise. Lots or crash cymbals and distortion on the guitar, etc. - especially at the end.
13) Fury - MUSE
This B-side
to 'Sing for Absolution' seems somewhat inspired by Tom Morello's guitar style ... or is it just me?
14) Beautiful
- Athlete
Soft Hard Soft indie song .... this guy puts so little effort into his singing. "Woyres", anyone?
15)
Protect Me From What I Want - Placebo
Album version of Protegé Moi, and, in my opinion, superior - not because i speak
not a word of French, but because that version had bloody awful inserts of "Protegé Moi" being whispered, and it sounded wrong,
plain wrong i tells you! Other than that, and the fact this is all in English, it's pretty much the same song as the
single.
16) I live for Speed - Star Spangles
Oh, this song is fun
- the kind of song that makes you wish you were driving a VW Camper down a beach road in CA (or Skegness, if you're English)
in the sun (or drizzle, if the previous criteria applies).
17) Chocolate - Snow Patrol
You know, our band decided
to cover 'Run' by the same band ... seemed easy, but it is infact very very hard. the reason for this is that it is so incredibly,
mind-erasingly boring, that you lose, not only your place, but also your will to go on while before you can finish it. Chocolate
is a bit better, and cheerier, but otherwise much the same.
18) One is the Lonliest Number - The Beatles
Well, it
says the Beatles on this mp3, but it doesn't sound like them singing ... might be George i guess - certainly not Paul or John.
Anyway, i'm sure there isn't one among us who is unfamiliar with this song, so i won't dwell on it.
19) Blackside in
the Mirror - Takui
Interestingly strange J-Rock song by a guy who sings in english with a strong Engrish accent (on this
song at least) and whose name means "seat".
"Bwacksoid in a miwrow!" Fablon
20) Screi nach Liebe - Die Aertze
More energetic offerings this time from the German group who graced us earlier.
This track is reminiscent of groups like Iron Maiden, until it finishes with an acoustic guitar and whistling 'duet'
that fades, like a cowboy wandering into the sunset, as i will do now. Well, I'll ride of course, because i'm not a plebian
cowboy, and i own a horse. infact, i shot someone and stole theres. A sheriff infact. The song is also permiated by occasional
"Arschloch"s. Superfantastisch!
